Our name reflects our philosophy and approach on how we practice design. In Hawaiian, Laulima literally means "many hands working together." It is a pillar principle within the Hawaiian culture and is best represented by an example long ago when Hawaiians used to fish together in the ocean. A group of fishermen would take a rope or cord with ti leaves tied to it and form a line in the water to herd the fish toward the shore. The line would slowly close into a circle to trap the fish, and if one person was out of sync, they would be given a chance to swim free.
This story resonates with the way our firm operates. Via Laulima is more than just an identity; it is a belief that good design is achieved by working collectively with an interdisciplinary mindset.
